Four Types of Business Data Analytics Every Business Analysts Must Know

Successful businesses have skilled business analysts, and there is no doubt in this. Becoming skillful is not an overnight journey, and there is no rocket science behind this. If you wish to become a business analytic, somewhere you have to start forgetting how good or bad, would be the initial days. Life out of the comfort zone is always full of struggles, and successful people are a big part of this.

For More Information...

Business analytics have different stages, and business analysts process huge amounts of data at various stages. Depending on various stages of the workflow and the requirement of the data analysis process, there are four types of analytics, and they are - descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive data analytics. These four varieties or type of data analytics answers every question that companies need to grow and maximize their revenues.

These four types of analytics are equally important, and there is superior or inferior in it. They are interrelated to each other and give different insights. However, data is crucial in many sectors and many industries for its diverse nature; companies rely on one of these or all of these to extract meaningful and insightful data for big data analytics and other analytics processes.

Let’s understand four types of analytics and their definitions.

Descriptive Analytics - It deals with summarising the existing data using existing business intelligence tools for better understanding and better data management. It is otherwise known as the simplest form of data analytics which business analytics use to analyze the complex and ununderstandable chunks of data. 80% of business analytics includes descriptions based on aggregations to convert and understand the initial stages of data.

Diagnostic Analytics - It focuses on past performance through historical data analysis like what happened in the past and why it happened. This process is all about analysis of past data that includes drill-down, data discovery, data mining, and correlations between data. This method uses probability, likelihood, and different probability distribution methods.

Predictive Analytics - It is the advanced level method that emphasizes on predicting the possible outcomes using statistical models. The important note on this is it cannot predict if an event will occur in the future, but it can always predict the probabilities of occurrence. The main objective of this method is to understand the existing data to predict the future.

Prescriptive Analytics - It s a form of predictive analytics that we require to recommend one or more courses of action in the data analysis process. This method uses a strong feedback method to learn constant and updates the relationship between different actions and their outcomes. Business analytics uses this model to establish the relationship between two different functions that give a particular output.

Conclusion

The four techniques perform best when business analytics implement them sequentially. However, companies or business analytics jump into particular phases that they most suitable at that moment as they already have good years of experience in it.
